Auction: Fine Netsuke & Sagemono, 6 November, 2026
Galerie Zacke will be holding the autumn edition of Fine Netsuke & Sagemono on Friday, 6 November 2026, at 1:00 PM CET. Featuring 285 exceptional lots, the auction is more focused in scale than the spring sale, yet ranks among the finest selections presented by Galerie Zacke to date, distinguished by masterful carving, rare subjects, and remarkable provenances. The full catalogue may be viewed online at Fine Netsuke & Sagemono – Galerie Zacke.
The sale opens with a strong selection of sagemono, including fine lacquer works from the collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, highlighted by a poetic inro by Koma Kansai II (lot 16). The exceptional early netsuke section brings together important works from celebrated collections, including Ogasawara Issai’s kappa (lot 54) and an ivory dog attributed to Gechu (lot 60), both formerly in the Behrens collection, alongside two remarkable works from the collection of Louis Gonse, illustrated in his pioneering L’Art japonais of 1883 (lots 63 and 67). A particular highlight is the front-cover lot, a masterful ivory group of a mother dog and her two puppies attributed to Yamaguchi Okatomo (lot 101), from the distinguished Katchen collection. The selection is further enriched by an outstanding group of Tanba school netsuke by Naito Toyomasa, Shugasai Toyokazu, and their circle (lots 147–157), before concluding with a fine array of modern and contemporary works.
The exhibition will be open to the public at Zelinkagasse 6, Vienna, from 2 to 5 November, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and on 6 November until 12:00 PM. In addition, detailed videos of all lots are available to view on Galerie Zacke’s YouTube channel.
